Description:
This West Gulf Coastal Plain forest is known only from mesic to moist calcareous soils associated with the Jackson Geologic Formation in north-central Louisiana. It is characterized by a dense canopy, 20-30 m tall, of <i>Quercus oglethorpensis, Quercus similis, Quercus sinuata var. sinuata, Quercus phellos, Quercus pagoda, Quercus shumardii, Quercus alba, Pinus taeda, Carya ovata, Acer floridanum, Liquidambar styraciflua, Fraxinus americana</i>, and <i>Ulmus alata</i>. A sparse subcanopy of canopy species and a sparse shrub layer of <i>Crataegus marshallii, Crataegus flava, Crataegus triflora, Aesculus pavia var. pavia, Bignonia capreolata</i>, and <i>Parthenocissus quinquefolia</i> are present. The sparse to moderately dense herb layer is composed of <i>Trillium ludovicianum, Oxalis rubra, Carex cherokeensis, Sisyrinchium</i> sp., <i>Tillandsia usneoides, Pleopeltis polypodioides ssp. michauxiana, Chasmanthium sessiliflorum, Danthonia spicata, Lithospermum tuberosum, Allium canadense var. canadense</i>, and <i>Cardamine bulbosa</i>. Characteristic examples of this type are known from Copenhagen Forest (Caldwell Parish, Louisiana).
