Name: Prosopis glandulosa var. glandulosa / Celtis ehrenbergiana - Opuntia spp. Ruderal Scrub
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This mesquite woodland occurs on heavily utilized pastures on deep soils of broad valleys of the Rio Grande deltaic plain in southern Texas. This community is typically dominated by species that increase under heavy grazing or proliferate after root plowing such as Opuntia spp. Introduced grasses, such as Cynodon dactylon, Pennisetum ciliare, and/or Dichanthium annulatum, generally dominate the herbaceous stratum. This community now occupies areas historically covered by a mosaic of native shrublands and grasslands.
