Description: This community occurs in saline to hypersaline tidal waters of low tidal amplitude along the southern coast of Texas and south into Tamaulipas. <i>Avicennia germinans</i> is the dominant shrub, usually from 0.5-3 m tall. <i>Batis maritima</i> forms a lower shrub layer, usually also extending outward from the <i>Avicennia</i>, and may form a small or extensive adjacent community.
