Description: This sandbar community occurs along small rivers and large creeks in the Red Hills of Alabama (East Gulf Coastal Plain), and apparently also in adjacent portions of the East Gulf Coastal Plain. This forest / woodland / shrubland has a variable physiognomy in height and canopy closure, from 4-20 m in height, and from open to closed canopy. <i>Catalpa bignonioides</i> and <i>Salix nigra</i> are the dominant trees. <i>Brunnichia ovata</i> is abundant and forms tangles and festoons over trees and shrubs. <i>Eupatorium serotinum</i> is a characteristic herbaceous species.
