Name: Pinus contorta var. murrayana - Pinus albicaulis / Carex filifolia Forest Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This forest association is currently only known from Yosemite National Park in California, and the following description is based on occurrences there. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. This association occurs between 3050 and 3200 m (10,000-10,500 feet) in elevation. Aspects are southeast and southwest, and slopes are gentle to moderate. Soils are derived from granite and are sandy gravels to sand. Sites may be up to 80% bedrock. Tree cover averages between 5 and 25%, and is composed of <i>Pinus contorta var. murrayana</i> and <i>Pinus albicaulis</i>. These two species also make up the shrub layer, which averages 11% cover. These species occur in scattered clumps, often as krummholz. Actual shrub species are absent. The herb layer averages 23% cover and is composed of variable species, with the exception of <i>Pinus contorta var. murrayana</i> and <i>Pinus albicaulis</i>, which together make up an average 14% of this cover. <i>Carex filifolia</i> averages 5% cover.
