Description: This low-scrub association is endemic to the Channel Islands of southern California. It forms an open to scattered shrub layer, with an open herbaceous layer. <i>Eriogonum grande var. rubescens</i> is the dominant shrub, and herbs that are often present include <i>Astragalus miguelensis, Carpobrotus chilensis, Erigeron glaucus, Atriplex californica</i>, and <i>Hordeum brachyantherum ssp. californicum</i>. The association is found at all slope positions at primarily northwest aspects. Soils are derived from depositional (alluvial and lake) as well as volcanic flow. Soil textures include sandy loam and fine clay. Elevations range from approximately 40 to 130 m. This association is known from San Miguel and Santa Rosa Islands, and may also occur on Santa Cruz Island.
