Description: This shrubland forms an open to scattered shrub layer with <i>Isocoma menziesii</i> and <i>Lupinus albifrons var. douglasii</i> as the dominant and characteristic shrubs. The herbaceous layer is open to scattered with <i>Astragalus miguelensis, Carpobrotus chilensis, Cirsium occidentale, Atriplex californica</i> and <i>Distichlis spicata</i>. The non-native grass <i>Bromus diandrus</i> can also be abundant. This association is known from San Miguel and Santa Rosa islands, and is likely to occur on San Nicolas Island as well as the California mainland. Elevations range from 30 to 220 m. Stands are found primarily on the middle to upper third of the slope at all aspects. Soils include fine and loamy sands.
