Description: This scrub association forms an open to scattered shrub layer with <i>Isocoma menziesii</i> as the dominant shrub. The herbaceous layer is open to continuous with <i>Astragalus miguelensis</i> as the characteristic herb, and other herbs present include <i>Bromus diandrus, Carpobrotus chilensis, Distichlis spicata</i>, and <i>Atriplex californica</i>. Lichens are commonly associated nonvascular plants. The association is known to occur on Anacapa, San Miguel, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands, and could occur on the California mainland. Elevations range from approximately sea level to 250 m. It is found primarily on the upper parts of the slope, at all aspects. Soil textures include sandy loam, fine clay and sand, as well as clay loam.
