Description: This scrub association is endemic to the Channel Islands. It is an open shrubland with an open to scattered herbaceous layer. <i>Isocoma menziesii</i> is the dominant shrub with other shrubs that may be present such as <i>Coreopsis gigantea, Eriophyllum confertiflorum, Baccharis pilularis, Castilleja lanata ssp. hololeuca</i>, and <i>Eriogonum grande var. rubescens</i>, where total shrub cover ranges from 7 to 31%. <i>Dudleya greenei</i> is the dominant herb and herbs often present are <i>Carpobrotus chilensis</i> and <i>Atriplex californica</i>. Other herbs that are sometimes present include <i>Abronia umbellata, Achillea millefolium, Astragalus miguelensis, Avena</i> spp., <i>Bromus diandrus, Cirsium occidentale, Daucus pusillus, Distichlis spicata, Erigeron glaucus, Erysimum insulare, Hordeum brachyantherum ssp. californicum, Malacothrix incana, Medicago polymorpha, Spergularia macrotheca var. macrotheca</i>, and <i>Nassella pulchra</i>. It is primarily found on the middle to upper portions of the slope at primarily northerly aspects. Elevations range from approximately 80 to 170 m. Soils are derived from a variety of substrates but primarily older alluvium, lake, playa, and terrace deposits, as well as volcanic flows. Soil textures include clay loam and sand.
