Description: This association is characterized by an open to dense herbaceous layer of the non-native grass <i>Bromus diandrus</i> and the native grass <i>Distichlis spicata</i>. The overall herbaceous cover ranges from 20 to 95%. <i>Distichlis spicata</i> is codominant with annual grasses, most often with <i>Bromus diandrus</i>. The association occurs on the Channel Islands and the California mainland. Elevation ranges from sea level to 190 m. It may occur in sandy, less-vegetated situations. It occurs on flat to moderate slopes at all aspects, on sandy and sandy clay loams, that may be high in calcium carbonate.
