The overall herbaceous cover ranges from 19 to 86%. Non-native annual bromes and <i>Avena</i> spp. are greater than 35% of the herbaceous layer, while the native <i>Nassella pulchra</i> is usually 5% or more absolute cover and characterizes the stand. This type is known from the Channel Islands and throughout mainland California. Elevations range from approximately 10 to 470 m.
