Description: This scrub association forms an open to scattered low shrubland with an open to scattered herbaceous layer. <i>Isocoma menziesii</i> is the dominant and characteristic shrub, which can often form low creeping mats, but may be up to 2 m in height. Other shrubs present include <i>Artemisia californica</i> and <i>Baccharis pilularis</i>. The herbaceous layer is often dominated by non-native species such as <i>Avena</i> spp. or <i>Bromus diandrus</i>. This low shrubland is known from southern California coastal mountains and valleys, inland foothills as well as the Channel Islands. It is found at all slope positions and at all aspects. Soils are loam, fine clay and clay loam. Elevations ranges from 6 to 290 m (20-952 feet).
