Name: Toxicodendron rydbergii / Mixed Forb Hanging Garden Scrub
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: These are woody wetlands found in hanging gardens within alcoves of cliffs, or hillslope springs and seeps, dominated by Toxicodendron rydbergii with a characteristic hanging garden forb understory of Adiantum capillus-veneris, Aquilegia micrantha, and Mimulus eastwoodiae. These are found in the Colorado Plateau area of the southwestern U.S. Hanging gardens occur in areas where springs form waterfalls on cliff faces either along the backwall of alcoves or on exposed cliff faces. They are spectacular lush wetlands, if small in area, and form a striking contrast in the dry desert environment.
