Name: Adiantum capillus-veneris - Mixed Forb Hanging Garden
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: These are herbaceous wet seeps dominated by the fern Adiantum capillus-veneris, usually with a few other forbs such as Mimulus eastwoodiae, Primula specuicola, and Aquilegia micrantha. Graminoids may also be present and include Carex aurea, Carex curatorum, and/or Calamagrostis scopulorum. This association occurs as an obligate wetland that clings to wet cliffs, spray zones of waterfalls and streambanks found in "hanging garden" alcoves and along "gushettes" of sandstone cliffs in the southwestern U.S. They are spectacular lush wetlands, if small in area, and form a striking contrast in the dry desert environment.
