Name: Cirsium rydbergii - Carex curatorum - Calamagrostis scopulorum Hanging Garden
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: These are obligate herbaceous wetlands that occur in small patches and are dominated by Cirsium rydbergii, with either Carex curatorum or Calamagrostis scopulorum. They are found in alcoves of hanging gardens of the Colorado Plateau and deserts of the southwestern U.S. Hanging gardens occur where springs form waterfalls on cliff faces either along the backwall of alcoves or on exposed cliff faces. They are spectacular lush wetlands, if small in area, and form a striking contrast in the dry desert environment. These small-patch wetlands occur in northern Arizona and southern Utah.
