Name: Encelia californica - Eriogonum arborescens Scrub
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association consists of shrublands found on the Channel Islands of California. Dominant and characteristic shrubs include Encelia californica, Artemisia californica, Eriogonum arborescens, and Rhus integrifolia. Those often present include Opuntia oricola. The herbaceous layer typically includes Dudleya caespitosa and sometimes Selaginella bigelovii. It is a coastal scrub association occurring generally within the fog belt. It appears to be limited to steep southwest-facing rocky bluffs. Despite its preference for sunny steep exposures, it is usually associated with some summer fog close to the coast.
