Name: Atriplex confertifolia - Suaeda moquinii Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association is currently described only from the Mojave Desert Network. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. It is uncommon and sampled around Rogers Wash to the lake area of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and in the Corn Creek Wash area in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada. It was sampled at low to mid elevations ranging from approximately 400 to 950 m, with an elevation average of 706 m. Limited sampling data exist, but all samples were on alluvium derived from sandstone substrate. Stands typically occur in alkaline/saline valley and wash terraces where the water table is usually close to the surface. Vegetation forms an open shrub canopy in which the shrub cover ranges from 6 to 12%. The emergent tree layer is sparse, and the herb understory is variable and ranges from 0 to 5% cover. Atriplex confertifolia is dominant in the shrub canopy along with Suaeda moquinii, which is codominant. Other shrubs often present include Larrea tridentata, Lepidium fremontii, and Psorothamnus fremontii. Commonly associated herbs include Descurainia pinnata, Eriogonum inflatum, and Schismus spp., and those trees sometimes present include Prosopis glandulosa.
