Name: Coleogyne ramosissima - Ericameria teretifolia Mojave Desert Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association is currently described only from the Mojave Desert Network. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. It is uncommon and was sampled at upper elevations in the Cottonwood, Owlshead, and Panamint mountain ranges, as well as Green Water Valley, in Death Valley National Park in California, and on Clark Mountain in the Mojave National Preserve, also in California. Elevation ranges from approximately 1250 to 1690 m, and averages 1490 m. It is found on variable slope positions, on moderate to steep slopes (8-27°), and on variable aspects. Limited soil data are available for this association, but substrates include alluvium, gneiss, granodiorite, and rhyolite. Vegetation forms an open to intermittent shrub canopy in which the shrub cover ranges from 8 to 39%. The emergent tree layer is sparse, and the herb understory is variable and ranges from 1 to 9% cover. Coleogyne ramosissima, Ericameria teretifolia, and Eriogonum fasciculatum are characteristic in the shrub canopy.
