Name: Eriogonum fasciculatum Desert Wash Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This desert wash association is found across the Mojave Desert in Nevada and California and forms an open shrub canopy (14-20% cover) that is dominated by Eriogonum fasciculatum with Ephedra nevadensis, Ericameria cooperi, Larrea tridentata, and Salazaria mexicana being characteristically present along with several other shrubs. The herbaceous layer is variable and ranges from 5 to 13% cover. Characteristically associated herbs include Amsinckia spp., Eriogonum inflatum, Sphaeralcea ambigua, and exotic grass Bromus rubens. Low cover of lichens and mosses may be present. Stands occur in rocky and gravelly drainages at mid to upper elevations (1100-1450 m). Slopes are gentle to somewhat steep (3-22°) often with southerly aspects. Soils are typically sandy loam and are derived from igneous substrates such as basalt or rhyolite.
