Description: This association is uncommon in hills and mountains of the southern and central Mojave Desert to the Colorado Desert in California. It has an open shrub canopy in (11-20% cover) that is dominated by <i>Hymenoclea salsola</i> with <i>Eriogonum fasciculatum</i> characteristically subdominant to codominant. Other shrubs often present include <i>Acacia greggii, Ambrosia dumosa, Atriplex canescens, Brickellia incana, Coleogyne ramosissima, Encelia frutescens, Ephedra californica, Ephedra nevadensis, Gutierrezia sarothrae, Larrea tridentata, Lycium cooperi, Petalonyx thurberi, Senecio flaccidus, Thamnosma montana</i>, and <i>Yucca baccata</i>. Herbaceous cover is variable and ranges from 2 to 12% cover. <i>Cryptantha</i> spp., <i>Lotus scoparius, Mirabilis multiflora</i>, and invasive exotics <i>Bromus rubens, Bromus madritensis, Erodium cicutarium</i>, and <i>Schismus</i> sp. are frequently present. Stands are found at mid to upper elevations in hills and desert mountains primarily in washes and drainages with gentle slopes (&lt;3°). Elevation ranges from 850-1450 m. Soils include sands and sandy loams and are derived from a variety of substrates such as alluvium and rhyolite.
