Name: Larrea tridentata - Ambrosia dumosa - Psorothamnus (arborescens, fremontii) Desert Shrubland
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association is common in the Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin in California, Nevada and Arizona and has an open to intermittent shrub canopy (6-39% cover) codominated by Larrea tridentata and Ambrosia dumosa with Psorothamnus arborescens or Psorothamnus fremontii characteristically present. Herbaceous cover is variable and ranges from 0 to 21% cover. Common associates include Eriogonum inflatum, Chaenactis spp., and Cryptantha spp. Scattered emergent trees may be present with from 0 to 1% cover. Stands are found at low to upper elevations on variable slope positions with gentle to somewhat steep slopes (1-26°) and on variable aspects at 350 to 1550 m elevation. Soils are variable as well and are derived from a variety of substrates, though primarily alluvium with sediments of igneous and sedimentary rocks.
