Name: Prosopis glandulosa - Tamarix ramosissima Wet Scrub
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This ruderal wet scrub is found in spring-fed riparian areas in the Mojave Desert in Arizona and Nevada, and in the Colorado Desert in California. Vegetation forms an open to intermittent tree canopy in which the dominant and/or characteristic tree is Prosopis glandulosa. Commonly associated shrubs include Tamarix ramosissima, Acacia greggii, and Encelia farinosa, and commonly associated herbs include Bromus rubens and Schismus. Stands are found at low elevations, along stream channels and spring-fed midslopes with northerly to easterly aspects. Elevation ranges from approximately 180 to 470 m, and averages 330 m. Slopes are gentle to moderate (1-15°). Soils include sandy loam, and are alluvium derived from various substrates such as alkali-granite (alaskite) and schist. Stands appear to exhibit disturbance from a variety of sources, including soil erosion, cattle grazing, and intermittent flooding.
