Name: Prosopis glandulosa / Pluchea sericea Wet Scrub
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This wet scrub association is found in the Mojave Desert of California and Nevada, and in the Colorado Desert, in California. It is characterized by an open to continuous short-tree canopy (7-67% cover) dominated by Prosopis glandulosa with a variable shrub layer (7-63% cover) dominated or codominated by Pluchea sericea. Other shrubs may include Atriplex spp., Baccharis sergiloides, Bebbia juncea, Ericameria spp., Suaeda moquinii, and exotic Tamarix spp. The herbaceous layer is variable and may include Schoenoplectus americanus, Solidago spp., and Sporobolus airoides. The herb understory is also variable and ranges from 0 to 51% cover. Stands occur at low elevations (from 0-600 m, averaging 187 m) on gentle to somewhat steep slopes (1-18°) with eastern to southern aspects. Sites include spring-fed drainages and marshes, lake-edge drawdown areas, and springs and seeps adjacent to mudhills and badlands where soil moisture is perennially available. Soils are alkaline alluvium derived primarily from granodiorite and sandstone.
