Name: Prosopis pubescens / Baccharis sergiloides Wet Scrub
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association is currently described only from the Mojave Desert Network. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. It is found uncommonly in Death Valley National Park, California, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Nevada. It is found at low- to mid-elevation spring-fed sites, including alkaline seeps and marshes at bottoms of slopes, where running and below-ground water is typically present. Elevation ranges from approximately 220 to 1140 m, and averages 785 m. Slopes are gentle (2-3°). Soils include silt loam, and are alkaline alluvium derived from substrates such as alkali-granite (alaskite) and sandstone. Vegetation forms an open tree canopy in which tree cover ranges from 6 to 28%. The shrub layer is variable and ranges from 10 to 78% cover, and the herb understory is also variable and ranges from 13 to 57% cover. Prosopis pubescens is dominant or codominant in the tree overstory, while other trees often or sometimes present include Prosopis glandulosa or Washingtonia filifera. Baccharis sergiloides is dominant or codominant in the shrub layer, and other associated shrubs include Acacia greggii and Gutierrezia sarothrae. Commonly associated herbs include Bromus tectorum, Pectocarya recurvata, Plagiobothrys, and Schismus.
