Name: Solidago spectabilis (var. confinis, var. spectabilis) Meadow
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This association is currently described only from the Mojave Desert Network. Additional global information will be added as it becomes available. It is found rarely in Death Valley National Park, California, around alkaline springs such as Little Sand, Blackjack and Surprise springs at mid to low elevations (ranging from approximately 550-950 m and averaging 732 m). Soils are typically derived from sedimentary substrates such as alluvium and conglomerate, but it has also been observed on rhyolite. Vegetation forms an open to continuous herb layer in which the herbaceous cover ranges from 29 to 81%. The tree layer is typically absent, and the shrub layer is sparse and ranges from 0 to 0.5% cover. Solidago spectabilis var. confinis or Solidago spectabilis var. spectabilis is dominant or codominant in the herbaceous layer. Other commonly associated herbs include Juncus mexicanus. Shrubs that are sometimes present include Pluchea sericea and Tamarix ramosissima.
