Description: This association is found at low to upper elevations in the Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin in California and southern Nevada. Vegetation is characterized by an open to patchy shrub canopy (6-23% cover) codominated by <i>Ericameria paniculata</i> and <i>Hymenoclea salsola</i>. If present, the herbaceous layer is sparse and composed of <i>Eriogonum inflatum, Cryptantha</i> sp., and exotic annuals <i>Bromus rubens</i> and <i>Erodium cicutarium</i>. Stands are found primarily in drainage channels and washes ranging from 400-1400 m elevation. Sites occur on flat to moderate slopes on variable aspects. Soils are sand and sandy loams derived from a variety of substrates.
