Description: This wet shrubland occurs on slope-springs, in hanging gardens and riparian areas and is dominated by <i>Frangula betulifolia</i>, with canopy coverage from &lt;1 to 70%. Other woody species that can be abundant include vines <i>Parthenocissus vitacea</i> and <i>Clematis ligusticifolia</i>, and facultative wetland shrubs such as <i>Toxicodendron rydbergii, Forestiera pubescens</i>, and/or <i>Rhus glabra</i>. Herbaceous cover is can be minimal or lush. The following species can be present with up to 30% cover or completely absent depending on site conditions: <i>Adiantum capillus-veneris, Calamagrostis scopulorum, Cirsium rydbergii, Elymus canadensis, Euthamia occidentalis, Juncus ensifolius</i>, and <i>Oxytenia acerosa</i>. This association is located in desert of the southwestern U.S., canyons of southern Utah, and on the central Colorado Plateau and is likely to be found in northern Arizona.
