Description: This vegetation is currently described from Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. It has a short-statured, open tree canopy dominated by <i>Salix nigra</i>. Other canopy associates include <i>Taxodium distichum</i> and <i>Triadica sebifera</i>. An open shrub layer is dominated by <i>Morella cerifera</i> with lower cover of <i>Cephalanthus occidentalis</i> and <i>Baccharis halimifolia</i>. The herbaceous layer is dominated by high cover of <i>Thelypteris palustris</i> with low cover of many other wetland herbs, including <i>Polygonum hydropiperoides, Hydrocotyle umbellata, Eleocharis vivipara, Sagittaria lancifolia, Alternanthera philoxeroides, Kosteletzkya virginica, Saccharum giganteum, Panicum dichotomiflorum, Eupatorium capillifolium, Habenaria repens</i>, and floating aquatics such as <i>Salvinia minima</i>.
