Name: Platanus occidentalis - Juglans major - Salix nigra Floodplain Woodland Alliance
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: These woodlands occur in central and western Texas on wet flats and high-energy rivershores; they are naturally or artificially disturbed and therefore maintain an open canopy. These stands are typically dominated by Platanus occidentalis. This vegetation may have Juglans major as a codominant, Platanus occidentalis as the dominant canopy with few other trees, and Juglans microcarpa as a shrub, or Salix nigra as a codominant. Acer grandidentatum may be present, as well as Prunus serotina var. eximia. This alliance is best documented by association-level data in the Edwards Plateau and adjacent Chihuahuan Desert of Texas; its presence elsewhere remains speculative.
