Name: Quercus buckleyi - Quercus sinuata var. breviloba - Quercus laceyi Dry Forest & Woodland Alliance
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This alliance includes primarily deciduous woodland vegetation dominated or codominated by Quercus buckleyi, Fraxinus albicans, Quercus sinuata var. breviloba, Quercus laceyi, and Ulmus crassifolia occurring in dry landscape settings in the Edwards Plateau and adjacent regions of Texas and possibly Oklahoma. The understory may include Diospyros texana, Mahonia trifoliolata, Sophora secundiflora, and Opuntia engelmannii. Herbaceous cover may be high where individual trees are scattered forming an open canopy, or sparse within denser canopied mottes. Herbaceous composition resembles that of the surrounding uplands. Canopy cover may consist of scattered individual trees or groups of trees (mottes) interspersed with grasslands. This alliance occurs in dry landscape settings of more-or-less level uplands and mesatops. Fire, climate and edaphic factors are thought to play an important role in maintaining these woodlands.
