Description: This alliance accommodates saturated vegetation dominated by <i>Alnus serrulata</i> from the Appalachian ecoregion of the southeastern United States. Stands are dominated by <i>Alnus serrulata</i>. Additional shrubs with lower cover may include <i>Cornus amomum, Ilex verticillata, Rosa palustris</i>, and <i>Spiraea alba</i>. There is usually high cover in the herb layer, which is dominated by wetland indicators, including <i>Boehmeria cylindrica, Carex gynandra, Carex stricta, Chelone glabra, Cinna arundinacea, Galium tinctorium, Glyceria striata, Impatiens capensis, Leersia oryzoides, Onoclea sensibilis, Osmunda regalis, Polygonum sagittatum, Sagittaria latifolia, Scirpus cyperinus, Scutellaria lateriflora</i>, and <i>Symplocarpus foetidus</i>.
