Description: These are ultramafic woodlands dominated by <i>Pinus echinata, Pinus rigida, Quercus alba, Quercus marilandica, Quercus velutina</i>, and <i>Tsuga canadensis</i>. Shrubs can be dense, including <i>Kalmia latifolia, Physocarpus opulifolius, Prunus umbellata, Rhus aromatica, Vaccinium stamineum</i>, and <i>Viburnum nudum var. cassinoides</i>. Herbaceous plants are patchy and may include <i>Andropogon gerardii, Packera plattensis, Piptochaetium avenaceum</i>, and <i>Sorghastrum nutans</i>. This vegetation is tree-dominated, and associated with Southern Appalachian and Piedmont slopes and ridges on soils derived from ultramafic rock, such as serpentine.
