Name: Schoenoplectus acutus - Bolboschoenus maritimus - Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani Marsh Alliance Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: Stands of this herbaceous wetland alliance are dominated by medium-tall to tall graminoids, with forbs uncommon and shrubs or trees very rare. <i>Schoenoplectus acutus</i> and <i>Bolboschoenus maritimus</i> are usually among the dominant species, with <i>Bolboschoenus maritimus</i> tending to be more abundant on more saline sites. It can form virtual monotypic stands where the water is most saline. <i>Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani</i> and <i>Bolboschoenus fluviatilis</i> are often present and can be dominant in some stands. Other species that can be present include <i>Carex atherodes</i> (especially in the shallower parts of the community), <i>Lemna</i> spp., <i>Typha latifolia</i>, and <i>Utricularia macrorhiza</i>. In moderately saline stands, typical species include <i>Juncus arcticus ssp. littoralis, Scolochloa festucacea, Schoenoplectus americanus</i>, and <i>Triglochin maritima</i>. <i>Triglochin maritima</i> can also grow on the drier edges of the more saline stands. Stands can be found in depressions or along streams and lakes. Sites are flooded for much or all of the growing season. Water salinity can vary from fresh to saline.
