Name: Elaeagnus angustifolia Ruderal Riparian Scrub Alliance
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This wooded alliance is dominated by the introduced tree species Elaeagnus angustifolia with a variety of native and introduced species in the shrub and herbaceous layers. Additional associated species have not been documented. The alliance is widespread and found throughout much of the southwestern United States. It is a naturalized species that has been widely planted in hedgerows for windbreaks. It has since spread (by birds distributing their seeds) to a variety of native habitats, particularly more mesic ones, such as near streams and rivers. Stands tend to be small and linear.
