Description: This alliance is made up of flood-battered scrub occurring on sand or gravel substrate deposited by regular and high-intensity alluvial flooding. <i>Salix interior</i> or <i>Salix caroliniana</i> is characteristic, and <i>Salix eriocephala</i> may codominate. The vegetation is highly variable in physiognomy and species composition due to the dynamic nature of flooding. This alliance has a broad geographic range, from the central Midwest ranging as far east as Pennsylvania.
