Name: Ericameria linearifolia - Cleome isomeris Scrub Alliance
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This shrubland alliance includes Ericameria linearifolia, Eastwoodia elegans, and Cleome isomeris as dominant shrubs. Stands occur in semi-desert environments of central and southern California's inner Coast Ranges and Sierra Nevada foothills where rainfall is unpredictable. They occur below 1000 m (3300 feet) in elevation on gentle to steep hillslopes that are often north-facing. Soils are rocky gravels to loams and clay loams. Sites are areas that have experienced recent disturbance such as fire, grazing, or colluvial movement. Shrubs quickly form a seedbank in soil and duff within the first two years of germination and fluctuate with other seral scrub, semi-desert scrub, and herbaceous vegetation types.
