Description: This mesic meadow alliance is characterized by an open to patchy herbaceous layer of grasses, dominated by <i>Bromus carinatus, Bromus maritimus, Elymus glaucus</i>, and/or <i>Pteridium aquilinum</i>. Associate species include <i>Bromus diandrus, Bromus hordeaceus, Calamagrostis canadensis, Nassella pulchra, Achillea millefolium, Corethrogyne filaginifolia, Danthonia californica, Eschscholzia californica, Glyceria striata</i>, and <i>Heracleum maximum</i>. The overall composition of these meadows is similar, with each of the nominal species serving individually or in various combinations as the dominant. The overall herbaceous cover ranges from 25-90%. It occurs generally on steep upper slopes on clay and clay loam soils, and is found in the coastal foothills and on the Channel Islands of California.
