Description: This alliance comprises tall alluvial and freshwater tidal shrublands in the northeastern and north-central United States and temperate regions of eastern Canada. These tall shrublands are dominated or characterized by <i>Alnus serrulata, Alnus incana</i>, or <i>Alnus maritima ssp. maritima</i> and <i>Cornus amomum</i> or <i>Cornus sericea</i>. The substrate can be muck overlying mineral soils or cobble, gravel and sandy silt to silt mixes. The soils tend to dry out over the course of the year.
