Description: This group is common throughout the subboreal region of Alaska and extends eastward to southwest Yukon and northwest British Columbia. It occurs on moist well-drained soils derived from glacial deposits, hillside colluvium, residual soils, or loess. Dominant canopy species include <i>Picea glauca</i> or <i>Picea x lutzii</i> and <i>Betula papyrifera var. kenaica</i> or <i>Betula neoalaskana</i>. <i>Tsuga mertensiana</i> may codominate with <i>Picea x lutzii</i> where their ranges overlap. Common shrubs include <i>Rosa acicularis, Viburnum edule, Menziesia ferruginea, Alnus viridis ssp. sinuata, Salix pulchra, Vaccinium ovalifolium</i>, and <i>Oplopanax horridus</i>. Common herbaceous species include <i>Calamagrostis canadensis, Equisetum arvense, Dryopteris expansa</i>, and <i>Gymnocarpium dryopteris</i>.
