Description: This macrogroup covers a wide range of climate and soil conditions. Regarding climate, it spans the range of arid to subhumid, with annual precipitation from 200 mm up to slightly more than 1000 mm. Temperatures are mostly warm and, therefore, result in high evapotranspiration rates. It occurs in lowland and piedmont settings at altitudes between 900 and 1900 m and is distributed in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique. Dominant species are <i>Acacia tortilis, Acacia mellifera, Balanites aegyptiacus, Codeauxia edulis, Acalypha</i> spp., <i>Aerva</i> sp., <i>Combretum</i> spp., <i>Terminalia</i> spp., <i>Capparis</i> spp., <i>Commiphora</i> spp., and <i>Boswellia</i> spp.
