Description: This forest type represents the high-altitude and high-latitude afrotemperate communities growing between 10 and 600 m elevation. Mean annual precipitation is close to 900 mm and aseasonal. The forest structure is multilayered and tall, and the main species are <i>Afrocarpus falcatus, Podocarpus latifolius, Ocotea bullata, Olea capensis, Pterocelastrus tricuspidatus</i>, and <i>Platylophus trifoliatus</i>. Also found in deep gorge habitats are <i>Cunonia capensis, Heeria argentea, Metrosideros angustifolia</i>, and <i>Rapanea melanophloeos</i>.
