Description: This type occurs in fragmented patches between 1050 and 1650 m altitude in subridge scarps and other cooler sheltered sites in the northern provinces of Mpumalanga, Limpopo in South Africa, and in Swaziland. Mean annual precipitation is up to 1100 mm and in the form of summer rainfall. These are tall, evergreen afrotemperate forests, mainly growing on highly clayey and weathered soils. Dominant species are <i>Xymalos monospora, Podocarpus latifolius, Combretum krausii, Cryptocarya transvaalensis, Curtisia dentata, Schefflera umbellifera, Drypetes gerrardii, Syzygium gerrardii, Olea capensis ssp. macrocarpa</i>, and <i>Pterocelastrus galpinii</i>.
