Name: Eastern African Coastal Dry Semi-Deciduous Forest Macrogroup
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: These dry forests occur along the coast of Eastern Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique). Clarke and Robertson (in Burgess and Clarke 2000) characterized these communities as legume-dominated (especially Cesalpinioidea) and mixed dry forests. The former with a simple vegetation structure and the latter with a more complex one and heights of up to 30 m. Dominant genera of legume-dominated dry forest are Cynometra, Scorodophloeus, Julbernardia, Guibourtia, Hymenaea, Berlinia, and Erythrophleum. Characteristic species of mixed dry forests are Milicia excelsa, Newtonia buchananii, Terminalia sambesiaca, and Sterculia appendiculata.
