Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This macrogroup represents the plant communities growing on sand dunes in South Africa. One of the biomes where they are found is the Nama Karoo. It is adjacent to the Namib Desert and the climate is very arid. The dunes are parallel and are 3-8 m above the surrounding plains. The vegetation is an open shrubland with grasslands growing on the crests of the dunes and Acacia haematoxylon growing on the dune slopes. Other dominant species include Acacia mellifera, Grewia flava, Rhigozum trichotomum, and the grasses Schmidtia kalahariensis and Stipagrostis amabilis.
