Description: Most of their distribution in Africa occurs along the coasts of Mozambique and western Madagascar, as well as in the Mauritius Islands. In Mozambique they are largely found along estuaries and large river mouths and attain heights up to 10 m high. Characteristic species are <i>Avicennia marina, Ceriops tagal, Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Bruguiera cylindrica, Heritiera littoralis, Xylocarpus grannatum, Pemphis acidule</i>, and <i>Lumnitzera racemosa</i>.
