Description: This macrogroup represents communities growing on relatively stable sandsheets to active dunes, respectively, 5-28 km inland parallel to the coast, and right along the coast of the Northern and Western Cape provinces. The sand colors can be white, yellow and red, of coastal origin or quaternary eolian, deep, and loose, as well as shallow silty, skeletal soils. The predominant landform is flat or coastal peneplain with stabilized to mobile dunes. Mean annual precipitation is 100-150 mm during the winter. Vegetation is mostly low, species-rich shrubland dominated by erect and creeping succulent shrubs and also communities of short grasslands with scattered shrubs. Among the succulent shrubs are <i>Euphorbia burmannii, Euphorbia mauritanica, Othonna cylindrica, Othonna sedifolia, Zygophyllum morgsana, Zygophyllum cordifolium, Aloe microstigma, Meyerophytum meyeri, Ruschia leucosperma, Salsola tuberculata, Salsola zeyheri, Tylecodon decipiens</i>, and <i>Drosanthemum pulverulentum</i>. Graminoids include <i>Stipagrostis ciliata, Stipagrostis obtusa, Stipagrostis brevifolia, Cladoraphis spinosa</i>, and <i>Ficinia bulbosa</i>.
