Description: This is a type of Succulent Karoo characterized by low canopy cover and often soils with high stone content. The soils develop on shales and quartzite, schists and sandstones and are sandy or sandy-loamy, moderately deep and with high skeletal content. The landscape is flat valleys, low and broad ridges emerging from the valleys, and piedmonts of the escarpment on the Western Cape Province. Elevation ranges from 200 to 700 m and the climate is of mild winters; mean annual precipitation is slightly over 120 mm and occurs in the winter season. The vegetation is a low, succulent shrubland with genera such as <i>Drosanthemum, Ruschia, Salsola, Euphorbia</i>, and <i>Sarcocornia</i>, and members of the Aizoaceae (<i>Galenia, Psilocaulon, Caulipsolon</i>).
