Description: This macrogroup represents the communities that develop on a mountainous area of the Northern Cape Province, including slightly undulating hills, mountain slopes and extensive plateaus, inland of the Roggeveld Escarpment, towards the Bushmanland Basin. Elevation ranges from 600 to 1700 m and mean annual precipitation is around 200 mm. The vegetation is sparse dwarf-shrubland with succulents and microphyllous karroid shrubs. It shows rich displays of spring annuals and geophytes. Important genera include <i>Aloe, Antimima, Euphorbia, Ruschia, Eriocephalus, Pentzia, Pteronia</i>, and <i>Salsola</i>. Also important in some units is the presence of grasses of <i>Stipagrostis</i> and <i>Aristida</i>.
