Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: Landward from the mangrove areas, in drier sites, the mangrove tree Avicennia marina occurs, often with an admixture of Lumnitzera racemosa, and forms a band where trees are scattered in savanna fashion over a ground cover of herbs. The latter include Chenolea diffusa, Salicornia pachystachya, Sarcocornia indica, Sesuvium portulacastrum, and Suaeda monoica. Grasses are often present, including Paspalum distichum in wet saline sites, Dactyloctenium geminatum in wet but only brackish sites, and Sporobolus virginicus on the dry fringes.
