Description: This type represents vegetation communities occurring in the central-west and southwestern parts of Madagascar, from sea level up to about 600 to 800 m. The characteristic physiognomy is that of a dry woodland with many succulent species; variations across its range are related to the underlying geology, mostly sand, limestones and sandstones. Average annual rainfall amounts to 750 mm. Typical species of the canopy are <i>Adansonia za</i> and <i>Adansonia grandidieri</i> and several species of <i>Pachypodium</i>.
